with babies on my mind.. I decided it was time to try my hand at making a felt ball.. I watched a couple videos on YouTube that I found quite helpful.. the best ones are by the Crunchy Parent there are two videos.. make sure to watch both. Here are general step by step photos that you may also find useful.
first have all your supplies handy.. make your core ball using a high quality wool felt. I bought my on etsy from Cherdak, colored wool and tools from fabric.com
take your core ball and submerge in warm water until all the air is out (bubbles will stop rising from the ball an you'll know it is ready).. then gently take your wool ball out of the water and use a small amount of dish soap to begin to mold and roll the ball..
once your ball is matted you can start to lay your colored wool in any pattern
using a needle felting tool felt your colored wool onto the core ball, you can do this just so that the colored wool stays in place.. You can always use the needle tool again to fix any mistakes..
next you'll need a stocking.. place your ball inside and wash it in a hot/cold cycle and wash..

after the ball goes through the wash cycle.. remove the stocking and it's basically done.. you can use the felting needle again to fix any loose pieces of wool.. now you're ready to play! Cyra seems to think it's a new toy for Kobei.. looks like I'll be making a couple more before the new baby arrives.

Hello, I would love to purchase the 'stump' pillows from you, however sine they're unavailable I wouldn't mind trying to make something similar myself. do you mind if i ask where you found the wood grain fabric?

hi Imene!
I think other than high quality wool.. the only other tool I think is a must is a good felting needle.. this is the one I have.. and I really like it.
