woodland themed playroom - the tree stump pillows.

how about this lucky little guy?
His loving momma asked me to sew a few pillows for his amazing woodland themed playroom. I'm completely envious of the beautiful tree bookshelf behind him, made by Scott from Woodcurve.

on another front.. the house building is coming along. I've been designing and planning things that will make it home (hence my absense from blogging).
A wonderful creative space for me and the kids is in the works.. so when we're home & settled I'll be back to posting more often.

the ladybug girl - halloween 2011

She wanted to be ladybug girl. And she’s working on taking flight.

For the wings, first I cut out the shape/size from cardboard that I eventually wanted them to be.  Then lined it with batting, using a hot glue gun to keep the batting in place on the cardboard. Next, I stuffed the wings in-between the batting and the cardboard with poly-fil. Once the wings were stuffed, I stitched the quilting cotton & knit jersey front & back. I attached the elastic straps by cutting through the fabric and cardboard and gluing them where I imagined her shoulders would be.

For the tutu, I used 8 yards of red tule and assembled the skirt using this technique. The leotard is actually the same one she wore last year with her cupcake costume.. I just dyed it black & I added fancy red spots..

We've been having fun with this costume for weeks now!  Check back tomorrow and I'll share with you the little guy's costume!

an apron and a logo

i have a sweet friend that has many talents... a beautiful lady that can cook her way through anything.
she has lots of ideas.. and i believe that one day soon.. she'll turn them into a reality. awhile back.. I designed a logo for her.. and of course I had to sew her something special. 


I'll have to appoligize for being away for a few weeks.. I've been fighting a cold that seems like forever.. anyway I have a few things in the works that I'll share with you all soon. have a great weekend!


 

more memories framed.

When Zaya was born, my mother-in-law handed down to me two sweet items of clothing, daddy's sweater when he was a little guy.. and pop pop's (grandpa) bib from his early years.. I had these sweet mementos dry cleaned and hung them similar to the shoe growth chart.. all ready to be hung in my little guy's room.

After lining the shadow box with linen, I laid out the items on the linen and pinned them down using white glass head pins.

Lately i've had ice cream on my mind.. earlier this month we indulged and bought an ice cream maker.. and it has been pretty amazing.. and as i ate my way through coming up with a project for scor-pal and the twinery.. it became all too obvious. I'd make kraft paper waffle cones!


but not just any waffle cones.. ones with sweet greetings inside..


Using the Scor-Pal, I scored kraft paper to mimic a waffle cone texture and wrapped them into cones.  Next, I stitched small fabric spheres for the ice cream, stuffed with polyfil and attached a piece of twinery twine to the ice cream scoops. I glued my messages onto the twine and embellished with beads and felt balls to weigh the message down.
 
AND what a sweet surprise!
 
there you have it.. an adorable greeting. i'm seeing an ice cream party in the near future with these as invitations.. yummy!

a mother's day gift for our mimi and nona

"mommy, will you show me how to draw people?"
and here you have it.. cyra's first self portrait.. she did this last weekend.. and with mother's day right around the corner.. I thought it would be the perfect thing to embroider on linen and make a lavender sachet pillow for our mimi and nona..

i hope the grandmothers love it.. (maybe they'll love it so much they will forgive me for calling them grandma)

a special baby gift. hospital gown & baby wrap

here is a gift.. all sewn up for a special friend.


she is expecting her third.. finally a little girl.. and wanted to go pink.. and deliver her little one in a comfortable custom gown.. (not that there is anything wrong with the itchy, stiff, size 3X they give you at the hospital..) eekk.. i get goose bumps just thinking of what i wore during both my deliveries.. maybe the third time round i might get it right.. (---crazy talk---) I think the sleep deprivation is finally getting to me.

For the hospital gown, I used this great free pattern from Lazy Girl Designs and added an empire waist and linen trim


I hand-stitched a ribbon on the waist to create an empire waist and gathered the fabric as I went along..



for the baby wrap I used a pattern from Anna Marie Horner's Handmade Beginnings


lined in minky.. and custom bias tape.. it's sure to keep ten little toes nice and cozy. I added velcro closures which will make changing a diaper a breeze for a tired momma.


for the gown I used a cotton voile Little Folks, print from Anna Maria and for the exterior fabric if the wrap is from Anna Maria's Folksy Flannels.

i adore how this all turned out.. i hope she will too!
